It will be held at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 24 at Acworth City Hall.

Have questions for Mayor Tommy Allegood and the Board of Aldermen? You'll have a chance to speak directly to them at a town hall meeting scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Oct. 24. "This meeting will highlight the positives of our community and all the wonderful activity that has been going on and the activities that will continue," Allegood said in an email invite.  In addition to Allegood and the Board of Aldermen, Acworth department heads will attend and take questions after the city's presentation. Officer Honored for Saving Baby's Life

Officer Timothy Arnold was first on the scene to help a baby who had fallen nine feet.

When Acworth Police Officer Timothy Arnold arrived at a call in April to find a 15-month-old not breathing after falling nine feet, it took less than a minute for him to stabilize the child’s cervical spine and instruct the mother how to clear out the baby’s airway with a bulb syringe. Instinct just kicked in, said the 6-year police veteran who is credited with saving the baby’s life. “I wanted to make sure that baby was able to breathe and would be OK,” Arnold said. At Thursday night's Board of Aldermen meeting, Arnold received the American Police Hall of Fame’s Life Saving Award. “It’s a huge honor,” Arnold said. “It means a lot. Allatoona Quilters to Be Recognized at Council Meeting

Alcohol licenses, summer event contracts and a recognition event are on the agenda for tonight's City Council meeting.

The regular meeting of the mayor and the Board of Aldermen of Acworth will start at 7 tonight in the Council Chambers. A proposed liquor license from Cinco D’Mayo Mexican Restaurant Bar & Grill at 5050 Cherokee St. is on the agenda. The restaurant is also seeking a permit for Sunday sales of alcohol. Several summer events are on the agenda, including the approval of a contract with World Sports and Marketing Inc. to hold the 2011 Professional Wakeboard Tournament in Acworth from May 19 to 21. The event took place in Acworth for three consecutive years from 2006 to 2008, but it is not a guaranteed event that always takes place in the city. Acworth Ready for a New Year

The City Council held its first meeting of 2011 Thursday evening.

The Acworth Board of Aldermen approved a stormwater contract and a new mayor pro tem during the council's first meeting of 2011 Thursday night at City Hall. The council appointed Alderman Butch Price as the mayor pro tempore, a position rotated among the aldermen. It's Price's first time serving as the official fill-in for Mayor Tommy Allegood. "I didn't apply for the position," Price said, "but I'm very happy to accept it." Among 13 approved agenda items, the aldermen also signed off on a contract with Corley Contractors to work on a project that aims to improve the stormwater flow on Willis Street.
