The Cherokee Sheriff’s Office arrested 19-year-old Giovanni Aragon-Mercado Thursday afternoon in connection with the fatal accident that occurred Wednesday in Woodstock. Mercado's SUV crossed the center line and struck a motorcycle driven by 24-year-old Derrick Ferree of Marietta on Bascomb Carmel Road at approximately 5 p.m. Wednesday, said Lt. Jay Baker of the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office. Ferree was transported to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital in Marietta where he later died from his injuries. Mercado survived with no injuries. "It appears Mercado fell asleep at the wheel," Baker said. Mercado was charged with misdemeanor homicide by vehicle, failure to maintain lane, and violation of license restrictions. A Cartersville man died after being in a car accident just before midnight Tuesday on Cobb Parkway in Acworth. According to the Cobb County Police Department, 41-year-old Brandon Meadors of Cartersville was driving on the wrong side of the road, traveling southbound in the northbound lanes on Cobb Parkway in his 2003 Chevrolet S-10. Meadors' truck collided with a maroon 2009 BMW 335i traveling northbound in the same lane around 11:45 p.m. just north of the Dallas Acworth Highway intersection. Both drivers were transported to WellStar Kennestone Hospital. Michael Wilson of Acworth, the 24-year-old BMW driver, suffered non-life threatening injuries, but Meadors died as a result of his injuries sustained from the crash.

Stefany Caicedo was removed from her vehicle by passing motorists as her car began to catch fire, says the Cobb County Police Department.
An Acworth teen was severely injured in a car crash this morning in Mableton, according to the Cobb County Police Department. Investigators say 19-year-old Stefany Caicedo of Acworth, was traveling south on Cooper Lake Road in her Ford Explorer Sport Trac when she lost control of her car on the wet roadway. Caicedo’s vehicle entered the northbound lane and collided with the front of a Chevrolet Trailblazer. Caicedo was unconscious after the wreck, and was removed from her vehicle by passing motorists as it began to catch fire, according to the police. She was transported to Atlanta Medical Center with serious injuries, while the other driver, 33-year-old Danice Flores of Mableton, was transported to Wellstar Cobb Hospital for treatment. If…

WBHF-Radio reported today that Bartow authorities have identified an Acworth man killed in a fiery car crash early Sunday morning. Investigators obtained dental records of 61-year-old Kang Chang and were able to identify his body, according to WBHF. Bartow County firefighters told the radio station that the single-vehicle wreck took place at approximately 2:53 a.m. Sunday on Sandtown Road near Lake Allatoona. Investigators were unable to identify the person or even the sex because of the severity of the burns, WBHF said. Officials announced this afternoon that the case is under investigation and that the cause of Chang's death is unclear.

A 53-year-old Woodstock man died in a single-vehicle wreck Thursday evening in Acworth.
One man died in a fatal wreck Thursday evening on Lake Acworth Drive/Highway 92, just west of Collins Circle in Acworth. Cobb County police have identified the driver who died at the scene as 53-year-old Gregory M. Jones of Woodstock. Investigators say Jones was traveling eastbound on Lake Acworth Drive in his 1993 Chevrolet S10 Blazer, and attempted to negotiate a curve to the left. His Chevrolet left the roadway, rolled down an embankment and overturned. Jones was the only person in the vehicle, authorities say. The Acworth Police Department initially responded to the traffic collision, and the case was later handed off to the Cobb County Police Department for investigation. An Acworth teen has been charged in the Stilesboro Road wreck that killed one and injured another. Wednesday, Alexandra Covett, 17, was charged with second-degree vehicular homicide and failure to maintain her lane, said Officer Joe Hernandez of the Cobb County police. The crash occurred around 7 p.m. on Jan. 14, a few days after the snow storm that left metro Atlanta roads covered in ice and snow. Covett lost control of a 2001 Mitsubishi Eclipse on an icy patch near the intersection of Stilesboro and New Salem Road. The car spun counterclockwise and collided with the front end of a 2007 Hyundai Sonata traveling in the opposite lane. A Marietta man was killed in Sunday's wreck east of Acworth.
Cobb County police say 23-year-old Garrett Austin of Marietta died at the scene of a wreck on Bells Ferry Road east of Acworth and north of Kennesaw early Sunday. The incident happened around 2 a.m. when Austin was driving his black 2004 Nissan 350Z southbound on Bells Ferry Road. Police said Austin failed to negotiate a left-hand curve in the road, and his car went through the center median, hit some trees and overturned. A passenger, Justin Freeman of Macon, suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital. Authorities said it was a single-car accident. Cobb police spokesman Sgt. The driver killed in a fatal wreck early Thursday morning on I-75 has been identified as 24-year-old Kevin Wolfe from Acworth, according to Marietta Police. According to the initial investigation, Wolfe's 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee was on the ramp from the Canton Road Connector onto I-75 northbound (Exit 267) when the SUV drove off the road, slammed into a tree and flipped. Police said Wolfe was thrown from the Jeep onto I-75, and was hit by another vehicle. The strike caused another accident involving two other vehicles on the highway. An Acworth man was identified in a fatal accident happened in Knoxville, TN.
Knoxville News Sentinel: An Acworth man was killed in a car crash in Knoxville, TN Sunday morning. The crash happened on Interstate 40, and the man has been identified as 66-year-old Wade Arlyn Crane, who's from Acworth. Knoxville Police Department is investigating the accident, and suggests that the wreck may have been the result from a medical condition.
