A block party in historic downtown Acworth following the MasterCraft Pro Wakeboard Tour will feature an awards ceremony, live music, outdoor dining and more. The action happens May 17 and 18.
Due to significant recent rainfall and the projected water level of Lake Allatoona in the coming week, the world’s top professional wakeboarders will move to Lake Acworth to open the 22nd season of the MasterCraft Pro Wakeboard Tour. Originally set for Dallas Landing Park, the Friday, May 17, and Saturday, May 18, event now will take place at Lake Acworth Beach at Cauble Park, according to a Pro Wakeboard Tour press release. An estimated 8,000 spectators flocked to Acworth for the 2012 tour stop, but the new venue won't accommodate public access to the water by way of boat. The Acworth Parks and Recreation Department, North Cobb Rotary and Superior Plumbing are excited to announce the 4th Annual Smoke on the Lake BBQ Festival. More than 25 teams will fill up Cauble Park in downtown Acworth on Friday, May 10 from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., and Saturday, May 11 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission to the festival is free and free parking can be found downtown with free shuttles running Friday night and all day Saturday. The 2-day event kicks off with a free concert on Friday, May 10. Sons of Sailors, a Jimmy Buffett cover band, will take the stage at 8 p.m. Friday. The City of Acworth would like to say thank you to those who have faithfully served their country as well as those who are now serving. Acworth has a lot to offer when it comes to Labor Day weekend fun. The City of Acworth will be hosting the Love the Lake Parade on Saturday, Sept. 1 at 9:30 a.m. on Main Street in downtown Acworth. This year’s theme is Go for the Gold: Celebrating the Olympics. The 2013 budget will ensure no millage rate increases, but there will be a sanitation fee hike.
The City of Acworth revealed its 2013 budget, which shows gains in the general fund and balances in all other areas, during the meeting of the Mayor and Board of Aldermen's meeting Thursday evening. According to City Manager Brian Bulthuis, the city's general fund will generate revenue of $10,945,538 and spend $10,945,150, leaving the city with revenues over expenditures of $388. City staff has tentatively recommended keeping the current millage rate at 7.6 mills, with a final ruling on the rate coming in July. The city's power fund is projected to lose some money in 2013, with revenues coming in at $12,298,000 and expenditures of $13,335,000.
