Gov. Nathan Deal has signed a bill that will expand access to schools such as Chattahoochee Technical College, which has a campus in Acworth. House Bill 372 lowers the GPA requirement for the HOPE Grant from a 3.0 to a 2.0. The HOPE Grant goes to students who attend schools in the Technical College System of Georgia. It was just two years ago that the GPA requirement was raised from 2.0 to 3.0 for budgetary reasons. Cobb County graduation season is two months away, and the North Metro Campus of Chattahoochee Tech wants high school seniors to consider the college. The Acworth campus will host its annual Senior Day on Friday, March 22. High school seniors from Bartow, Cherokee, Cobb and Paulding counties will be bused to Chatt Tech to learn about applications, financial aid, sports, and how to succeed in college. The students will attend mock classes in several of the college’s popular programs, including all of the health science programs, horticulture, automotive, diesel technology, early childhood education, cosmetology, television production and more. More than 20 Chattahoochee Technical College horticulture students, instructors and staff members celebrated Sunday at Auburn University as it was announced that the team had placed fifth in the annual competition portion of PLANET Student Career Days behind first place finishers Brigham Young University - Idaho. Chattahoochee Technical College was the only Georgia college or university to crack the top five this year and the highest finishing two year college of the event. This marked the 21st year that the college’s team has finished in the top ten in the nation, including a first place finish overall in 2008 and 2010.
