Arrest Made in Acworth Brush Fire

Joseph Michael Pilgrim was arrested on a charge of criminal damage to property in the second degree.

A Northeast Cobb man has been arrested in connection with a brush fire behind an Acworth business. About 3:19 p.m. May 14, Cobb County Fire & Emergency Services responded to a brush fire behind Practix MFG LLC, 4000 Cantrell Road, that had been extinguished by employees. During the initial investigation, officials found "no identifiable accidental ignition in or around the fire origin," according to a Cobb County criminal warrant. When Cobb fire investigators returned to the scene on May 16 to interview Practix employees who discovered and reported the fire, Joseph Michael Pilgrim told them "that smoking was probably the cause of the fire," then led them to a pile of cigarette butts that "were not present at the time of the original …

The “Give Burns the Boot” fundraising drive starts Friday.

Cobb firefighters will be at local grocery stores and other businesses across the county for the next three Fridays to raise money for burn survivors. "Every station will go in their territory to different locations that give them permission," she said. Most stations are collecting donations at local Kroger grocery stores, while others will head to Chick-fil-A, the Town Center at Cobb food court and the Austell Walmart Supercenter, Boyd said. The West Hamilton Beach Volunteer Fire Department in New York state will soon receive a fire truck donated Wednesday by Cobb County Fire and Emergency Services.

A former Cobb County fire truck will have a new home in New York later this month. The fire truck donation stems from Cobb Fire’s ongoing partnership with the Georgia Chapter of the Terry Farrell Firefighters Fund, which has identified a number of departments in the northeastern U.S. that lost equipment as a result of Hurricane Sandy last year. “They lost everything … their firehouse was flooded, their engines, their ambulances, their turnout gear, their…
