Officials with the Cobb County Sheriff's Office on Wednesday arrested a Bartow County man who authorities said threatened a Cobb County Superior Court judge. A Cobb County grand jury has indicted a former sheriff's deputy from Douglasville on charges of rape, sexual assault against persons in custody, violation of oath by public officer, and other charges. In a warrant, Cobb authorities alleged that 51-year-old Alvin Blake Sutherland made physical contact with an unamed female inmate at the Cobb jail on Jan. 11. He was fired from his job and arrested Jan. 18. Cobb County Sheriff's Office deputies Wednesday arrested a 28-year-old Marietta man who allegedly sped through a school zone and ignored deputies' requests to stop. Just after 9 a.m. Wednesday, a deputy saw a Toyota SUV driving in a reckless manner on Powder Springs Road, said Nancy Bodiford, the spokeswoman for the Cobb County Sheriff's Office. A little more than two weeks after a Cobb County deputy was arrested in connection with the alleged sexual assault of a female inmate, a second deputy has been accused of the same thing. An internal investigation initiated after the Jan. 18 arrest of Alvin Blake Sutherland uncovered more alleged misconduct involving another deputy, according to WSB-TV. The investigation found that Sgt. Kristopher Travitz allegedly sexually assaulted a female inmate two years ago. At about 3:30 p.m., 16-year-old Wilford Hardnett was located in good condition walking on the Marietta Country Club golf course off Stilesboro Road, Sgt. Dana Pierce, spokesman for the Cobb County Police Department, said just before 7 p.m. Saturday. Cobb County authorities are asking for the public’s assistance in helping them locate a missing 16-year-old special needs boy. The Cobb County Sheriff's Office is being sued by a woman who says inadequate medical while in the jail led to her newborn baby's death. According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Taylor Hogan delivered her baby in a bathroom in August 2010 at 5 1/2 months pregnant while she was incarcerated on a charge of possession of stolen property. Her baby, whom she named Savante, died nine hours later. The newspaper reports that Hogan alleges in the lawsuit, which was filed in U.S. District Court in Atlanta, that she received inadequate medical care before and after her baby's birth. Two Cobb County juveniles are being investigated for identity theft, reported 11Alive News.
Fourteen-year-old Palmer Middle School student Alex Boston of Acworth made national headlines last week after she and her parents filed a civil libel suit against classmates they say bullied her through the use of a fake Facebook page. Now, two Cobb County juveniles accused of creating the page to impersonate the Acworth girl and post racial and sexual material, are being investigated by the Cobb Sheriff's Office for identity theft, reported 11Alive News.
