Family of Teen, Child Killed in I-575 Crash Seeks Help

They want to raise money for funeral expenses.

Family and friends of the Acworth teen and the 8-year-old boy killed in Monday's crash on Interstate 575 South are asking for the public's help. Rosa Isabel Fernandez-Zuniga has created the Abraham & Felipe Help Fund on giveforward.com to raise money for "funeral expenses in the US and to send the remains of Abraham Fernandez to ... Honduras." The goal is $20,000. As of Wednesday night, more than $2,900 had been raised. One of two people killed in an afternoon crash that temporarily shutdown Interstate 575 South was from Acworth, the spokesman for the Cobb County Police Department said this evening. Just before 2 p.m. Monday, Abraham Fernandez-Zuniga of Acworth was driving a red 2001 Chrysler Town and Country minivan northbound on I-575 with an 8-year-old passenger in tow. Woman Dies in Smyrna Accident

Luca Kosic of Marietta was killed in a two-car collision on Smyrna Powder Springs Road late Christmas Eve.

A Marietta woman died late Christmas Eve in a two-car collision on Smyrna Powder Springs Road, and Cobb Police say poor weather conditions, including dense fog, were a contributing factor. Luca Kosic, 46, of Marietta, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident at the intersection of Smryna Powder Springs Road and Trellis Oaks Drive, according to Cobb Police spokesman Michael Bowman.  He said Kosic was a passenger in a gold 1999 Toyota Camry traveling southbound on Smyrna Powder Springs Road shortly after 10:30 p.m. Monday when it was struck by a maroon 1994 Toyota Camry heading northbound. Reward Offered in Acworth Man's Case

A vehicle struck and killed 31-year-old Larry Ward in Cherokee County July 7.

Three months after an Acworth man was killed in a hit-and-run as he walked along Kellogg Creek Road in Cherokee County, Crime Stoppers has stepped up to offer a $4,000 reward in the case. The Georgia State Patrol and Crime Stoppers are asking for the public's help in locating the vehicle that struck and killed 31-year-old Larry Ward shortly after midnight July 7. The Georgia State Patrol now believes, based on evidence at the scene, that the vehicle was a Ford F150 XL pickup truck, between model years 1992 and 1996. The color of the vehicle and the vehicle's tag number are unknown. Acworth Man Killed in Hit and Run

Officials are seeking your help with a fatal hit and run that killed an Acworth man in Cherokee County.

The Georgia State Patrol is asking for the public's help in locating a vehicle that struck and killed an Acworth man early Saturday on Kellogg Creek Road in Cherokee County. Larry Allen Ward of Acworth, 31, was killed when he was walking along the road near Romain Drive just after midnight. Investigators believe the vehicle that struck Ward is likely to be a Ford Explorer or Ford Ranger, between model years 1989 and 1992, with damage to the front of the vehicle including the grill. The color of the vehicle and the vehicle's tag number are unknown. Alcohol Involved in Fatal Lake Crash

An accident near Lake Allatoona killed one Acworth man and injured three others.

Updated 8 p.m. Georgia State Patrol spokesman Gordy Wright said in an email alcohol was involved in the fatal crash. William David Hannah, 27, of Acworth, was killed in the crash at Kings Camp Road at Allatoona Woods Trail. Wright said Hannah was a passenger in a 1984 GMC pickup truck that had slowed to make a left turn from Kings Camp onto Allatoona Woods.   As it turned, the truck was hit from behind by a 2000 Ford Focus, which caused it to travel left and strike a utility pole. Hannah was partially ejected and died at the scene. The driver of the truck, Joseph Thomas Long, 41, also of Acworth, was injured and airlifted to Atlanta Medical Center for treatment. Teen Charged in Fatal Crash

An Acworth teen and his mom were arrested by Cherokee authorities in connection with the Wednesday head-on collision that killed a Marietta motorcyclist.

The Cherokee Sheriff’s Office arrested 19-year-old Giovanni Aragon-Mercado Thursday afternoon in connection with the fatal accident that occurred Wednesday in Woodstock. Mercado's SUV crossed the center line and struck a motorcycle driven by 24-year-old Derrick Ferree of Marietta on Bascomb Carmel Road at approximately 5 p.m. Wednesday, said Lt. Jay Baker of the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office. Ferree was transported to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital in Marietta where he later died from his injuries. Mercado survived with no injuries. "It appears Mercado fell asleep at the wheel," Baker said. Mercado was charged with misdemeanor homicide by vehicle, failure to maintain lane, and violation of license restrictions.
