Mother and Son Dead in Murder-Suicide

The bodies were found after a house fire early Sunday.

Two people found dead after a house fire in Acworth early Sunday died in a murder-suicide, according to the Acworth Police Department. Officers and Cobb County firefighters responded to a 911 call regarding a house fire at approximately 12:30 a.m. Sunday and discovered the bodies inside the home on North Bend Way just off Acworth Due West Road, Acworth police said. Medical examinations suggest that Shawn Hutcheson, 42, and his mother, Dianne Hutcheson, 64, both died from gunshot wounds, Acworth Police Chief Michael Wilkie said. Wilkie said initial investigations indicate that the mother shot her son, then set the house on fire and took her own life. The case remains under investigation. Acworth Man Accused of Killing Dad

A 58-year-old man died after attempting to stop his son's assault on his girlfriend, police say.

A 32-year-old Acworth man is accused of killing his father, who was trying to stop the son’s assault on his girlfriend, according to an arrest warrant. Cobb County police were called to a domestic dispute about 5:15 p.m. Sunday on Fripp Overlook off Mars Hill Road in Acworth. Officers found Herschel P. Miller, 58, in medical distress, according to the Cobb County Police Department. Miller was pronounced dead at WellStar Kennestone Hospital. Christopher Miller is accused of assaulting his girlfriend and causing the death of his father. He was arrested and charged with felony murder, aggravated assault and battery, said Cobb police spokesman Sgt. Dana Pierce. Miller is being held without bond at the Cobb County Adult Detention Center. …
