VIDEO: Old Jail Now Serves Veterans

Veterans, city officials and community members celebrated the grand opening of Acworth's Veterans Information and Referral Office at the old jailhouse.

Acworth city officials and local veterans from The American Legion North Cobb Post 304 gathered at the new Veterans Information and Referral Office (VIRO) Wednesday for a ribbon cutting ceremony. The VIRO office is located at 4315 Senator Russell Ave., where the Acworth Old Jail is. The office is established to provide veterans with benefits information and resource referral within the community where they reside. Community volunteers with The American Legion post have teamed up with the Veterans Administration and the City of Acworth to connect local veterans to the appropriate benefits, services and experts in the most streamlined manner possible. Head to downtown for Wednesday's grand opening of the new Veterans Information and Referral Office.

Our community's very own Veterans Information and Referral Office (VIRO) opened earlier this month. The office is located at the Acworth Old Jail at 4315 Senator Russell Ave., and operates with the help of The American Legion North Cobb Post 304, the City of Acworth and the Veterans Adminstration. A grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony with Acworth Mayor Tommy Allegood and city officials will be held at noon on Wednesday, Feb. 15. Veterans Resource Office Opens

The American Legion, City of Acworth and Veterans Administration are teaming up to assist local veterans.

The American Legion North Cobb Post 304, in partnership with the City of Acworth and the Veterans Administration, will open a Veterans Information and Referral Office (VIRO) at 4315 Senator Russell Ave. (the Old Jail) in Acworth at 11 a.m. today. The mission of the VIRO is to provide veterans with benefits information and resource referral within the community where they reside. The office will utilize community volunteers (American Legion members) who wish to serve those who have served from local communities. They will connect the veterans to the appropriate benefits, services and experts in the most streamlined manner possible.
