Public schools will be one of the few government services in operation today. Tell us what you think about that.
Banks are closed today. So are post offices. But schools will still be in session. Veterans Day was Sunday, and because the holiday fell on the weekend, many entities will observe the holiday today, including the federal government, which will be giving many of its employees the day off, according to the U.S. Office of Personnel Management. Today is also a holiday for the state of Georgia, one of the 12 holidays state employees will observe this year. While most other government-related offices will be closed for the day, students this morning will be heading to classes in the Cobb, Douglas, and Paulding county school systems. Should schools be closed for Veterans Day? Tell us in the poll below. We want to hear from you. Let us know …

Veterans Day is a time to recognize and thank members of the armed forces for keeping our country free. For one Acworth resident, this dedication to honoring veterans extends well past Nov. 11. Bob Weatherford is a member of the Patriot Guard Riders, a group of motorcycle enthusiasts whose primary mission is to escort the remains of fallen soldiers to their final resting place at the request of the fallen's family. Weatherford served in the Marines in the era of the Vietnam War and does not want what happened to veterans during that period to be repeated. “We don't do it to be recognized,” Weatherford said. “We do it to protect the family from protesters.” Members of the Kansas-based Westboro Baptist Church sometimes picket the funerals of…
