Snow Day? Winter Weather Rolls in Today, Tonight

The National Weather Service issued a winter weather advisory for north Georgia, which warns of light snow and black ice from Thursday afternoon to Friday morning.

Snow is expected across north Georgia this afternoon and tonight, according to the National Weather Service's winter weather advisory, which goes into effect at 1 p.m. and replaces the previous winter storm watch. A "cold polar air mass" is expected to spread into north Georgia as widespread rain shifts south. The result: Rain will mix with and change over to snow across portions of north Georgia, including Cobb County. The heaviest snowfall would be in the northeast Georgia mountains. The winter weather advisory, which lapses Friday morning at 7, warns of light snow and black ice north of a Carrollton-to-Atlanta-to-Jefferson line and south of a Rome-to-Hiawassee line.
