Acworth Plans a 'Dickens of a Christmas'

Holiday events are planned in downtown Acworth Dec. 7, 14 and 15.

Officials with the Acworth Downtown Development Authority and Historic Downtown Acworth Merchant Group are planning activities over the next few weeks that will usher in Santa Claus and the Christmas season. Santa will arrive in Acworth on Dec. 7, and children can not only meet the jolly old man but also hear Mayor Tommy Allegood read The Night Before Christmas and watch the lighting of the Tree on Main Street. The event runs from 6:30-9 p.m. Pictures with Santa also will be available beginning at 6:45 p.m., and time slots can be scheduled starting at 6:15 p.m. On Dec. 14, you can meet at the Old Depot on Main Street for an Old Fashioned Christmas Caroling stroll to sing favorite Christmas songs and learn about some of Acworth’s historic …

Farmer's Market on Main Street

Head to Historic Downtown Acworth for fresh produce and home-made food on Friday.

Every Friday through the end of October, you can find locally-grown vegetables, fresh picked fruits, home baked breads and pies at the Farmer's Market in Historic Downtown Acworth. The Farmer's Market takes place Friday from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. in the upper parking lot on Main Street and will continue through Friday, October 26. Each week, you'll be able to find new arrivals fresh from the farm. You might want to arrive early for the best selection. Longtime City Employee Honored

After 10 years on the Acworth Downtown Development Authority, Darlene Knight is retiring.

An Acworth city employee was recognized for her 10 years of service to the community during the Mayor and Board of Aldermen's regular meeting on Thursday evening. Darlene Knight has served with the Downtown Development Authority (DDA) since 2002. Her dedication to the community, including positions on the Design Community and serving as secretary helped beautify Main Street and brought new tourists and businesses to the community. “It's been a pleasure to see this city grow the way it has and to see it prosper has been a real pleasure,” Knight said. “No one person could have done it alone, the spirit of cooperation here is amazing.” “I don't know if many were you here ten years ago, but you could roll a bowling ball down Main Street and …

City Recognizes Domestic Violence Awareness Month

It took just 10 minutes to accomplish all the business before the Mayor and Board.

The Mayor and Board of Aldermen of the City of Acworth worked efficiently, presenting a proclamation to a local shelter and unanimously passing the consent agenda at their Thursday evening meeting with enough time left to enjoy North Cobb High School's homecoming parade. Mayor Tommy Allegood presented local safe house Shepherd's Rest Ministries with a proclamation recognizing October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
