Updated: 2011 Acworth Election Results

Bob Weatherford wins contested race for Alderman Post 3, while voters say "Yes" to Sunday Alcohol Sales.

Bob Weatherford says he's "feeling good about winning the race, but is glad it's over." Weatherford says he's looking forward to the next four years, and speaks highly of his opponent Brett North. "If I had lost, I'd still be happy for Brett," said Weatherford. "I don't think I'd be able to say the same thing about any other competitor, Brett is a great guy." Brett North says he is disappointed about the results, but he will go to bed tonight with "nothing to be ashamed of" because of a race ran with "honor and integrity." “The competition was strong and we knew it would be," said North. Many people have Acworth addresses, but only those living in City get to vote....kind of a shame, since so many of the City of Acworth's actions impact those in the immediate community....whether city or county. The City of Acworth municipal elections are going on today from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Roberts School at 4861 School St. Bob Weatherford (incumbent) and Brett North are the candidates for Alderman Post 3. Cobb Sunday Alcohol Sales Vote Expected

Commissioners could send a referendum to voters in unincorporated Cobb on the March 6, 2012 primary date.

Voters in Acworth, Kennesaw and Smyrna are deciding today whether Sunday retail alcohol sales will be allowed in their cities. (See Acworth Patch's poll results on Sunday alcohol sales) Voters in unincorporated Cobb may get to make the same decision in March.  On the agenda of the Cobb Board of Commissioners today is a proposal to schedule a Sunday sales referendum on the same day as the March 6 primary elections.  Cobb voters will go to the polls that day to elect party nominees for national, state and local offices, including president, the Georgia legislature, Cobb commission and Cobb school board. If the commission schedules a referendum today, and if it is approved by voters in March, Sunday sales would go into effect on June 1. …

I can remember when the city of Rome, GA was first trying to decide whether or not to have liquor sales. A prominent Baptist preacher said "If the Baptists want alcohol sales, we will have alcohol sales. If the Baptists don't want alcohol sales, we won't have them". Alderman Announces Re-Election Bid

Post 3's Bob Weatherford is seeking his third term in office in Acworth.

Alderman Bob Weatherford announced his intentions to qualify and seek re-election for a third term as the Post 3 alderman on the Acworth City Council during the council's Aug. 18 meeting. The election will take place Nov. 8. Posts 1, 2 and 3 are on the ballot. Weatherford is running against Acworth Zoning Board member Brett North, whose candidacy was announced Tuesday on Acworth Patch. Weatherford has served 10 years on the council and on many community and statewide boards and authorities representing the city. He said his experience matters and positions him to serve Acworth residents for another term.
