Thank you Kelly- finally a well written, intelligent article on this subject. However, some of the comments left are not only idiotic but also borderline humorous. Surely people comment out of emotion before they give their argument any serious thought.

This is what I don't understand, if nudity is the issue at hand, why would it matter what age the child is? Either way the job is still done the same way. To take it a step further, an older child hides more of the breast while nursing. You see, this is not about nursing in public or nudity or anything else of that nature. It's about thinking it's ok to even have an opinion about someone else's parenting. What makes a person feel like they have that right? This to me is no different than parents that make the decision to let their child sleep in the bed with them. Whose business is it of anyone else? And please don't say that it's about the "showing of skin". It's very clear that it's not. Otherwise it would be an issue at any age of the child. Wouldn't it be nice if mothers just supported each other instead of criticizing? Parenting is definitely hard enough without having to worry about the judgement of other parents. And if you don't think this is setting up more government control in the future, think again my friends.

Be very careful of saying, "I would never", or "My child would never". It has a way of coming back to bite you. As my children get older , this has shown to be true many times. It's kinda like thinking bad thoughts against the mom with a screaming toddler.

Kelly, I couldn't agree more. Two out of three of my children have cell phones. To beat that, their cell phones are actually better than mine. I can say now that I regret giving in to their whim. Especially the one in middle school. I think mainly because I've tried to teach them not to worry about what others think and not to be a follower. However in this, I've done just that. Who knows maybe I'll get it right with the third child. Probably not!
