Police Explorers Win Competition

Students of the Acworth Explorer Post 4400 were honored at the Winterfest Explorer Competition in Gatlinburg, Tennessee.

Members of the Acworth Police Explorer Post 4400 were awarded for their outstanding performance at the Winterfest Explorer Competition, which was held Feb. 3-5 in Gatlinburg, Tennessee.

The weekend competition included 3,200 participants from 70 different Explorer Posts from around the Southeast. The Acworth Explorer Post competed in three different role playing events including an Active Shooter event and an Unknown Trouble Event.

The team earned First Place for their efforts in the Crisis Intervention portion. This portion of the competition involved a role playing incident with a suicidal individual.

“We had a blast and can’t wait for next year’s competition,” said one of the team members.

The Acworth Explorer Post is made up of local students ages 14-19 and is a cooperative effort between the and the Law Enforcement magnet. The Post is lead by Detective Jonathon Sampson, and assisted by John Reagan, law enforcement instructor at North Cobb High.

The Post has been established for five years. In addition to learning about law enforcement, the members also assist the police department in numerous community activities throughout the year.
