Suspect in Pitner Elementary Rape Arrested

He is on the Georgia Sex Offender's Registry.

U.S. Marshals arrested the registered sex offender from Norcross who allegedly raped an underage girl last summer at an Acworth elementary school.

Though a Cobb arrest warrant was not issued until July 8, Cobb police Sgt. Dana Pierce told the Marietta Daily Journal that David Christopher Roberts, 41, was arrested without incident in June in Tennessee.

Between 9 p.m. Aug. 6 and 2 a.m. Aug. 7, Roberts allegedly picked up the juvenile near her residence and drove her to Pitner Elementary School, according the warrant.

"The victim stated that she hit and struggled with the accused but was unable to stop the assault," police said.

The 2012-13 school year had not started at the time of the alleged incident, which occurred on the school's playground area.

Pierce told the MDJ that Roberts met the 16-year-old girl on an Internet chat line and enticed her to meet him in a cul-de-sac near the school. After the assault, he allegedly drove the girl back to the same area.

Roberts is on the Georgia Sex Offender’s Registry. He was convicted of rape in 1992 in Indiana, according to the registry.

Roberts faces charges that include rape, enticing a child and child molestation.
