UPDATE: Drowning Victim Identified

A 55-year-old man reportedly drowned Sunday near Ragsdale Road in Acworth.

Updated July 30 at 2:50 p.m.

The victim has been identified as Thomas King of Marietta. According to investigators, King rented the paddle board and accessories from a local sporting goods store and was not wearing a life jacket at the time of the incident.

The would like to remind the public of the importance of life vests when out on the water, regardless of their swimming capabilities.

A 55-year-old man drowned Sunday afternoon while on a paddle board in Lake Acworth, according to the Acworth Police Department.

Officers arrived at South Shore Park on Ragsdale Road at around 1:40 p.m. after witnesses reported seeing a man on a paddle board going under the water.

Cobb authorities responded to the scene as well and were able to locate and recover the body within about 30 minutes after the initial report.

Officials have not released the identity of the man, and are investigating the cause of death.
