5 Things: Be Prepared for More Summer Heat

Here are the things you need to know before heading on the door on June 1.

1. Weather. We're in for some really hot summer weather, and it looks like it's going to stay this way. Today is expected to be mostly sunny, with a high temp near 96 degrees, and calm wind between 5 and 10 mph, according to the National Weather Service. There is a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2 p.m. as well as before 2 a.m. tonight. Low temp is around 67 degrees tonight, with partly cloudy skies and north wind between 5 and 10 mph.

2. In case you missed it. : The body of the Friday afternoon in Lake Allatoona was found this morning. It was one of two drownings in the lake this holiday weekend.

Pedestrian Hit by Car: An Acworth woman was hit by a car Tuesday morning and suffered severe injuries, said Cherokee County Sheriff's Office. Deputies responded to the scene shortly before 8 a.m. Tuesday at the intersection of Highway 92 and Wabash Trail. The victim, Negin Efani, 19, received serious head injuries in the collision and was transported to Kennestone Hospital.

3. Happening. , and High Schools are among the 13 Cobb County schools included in The Washington Post's National High School Challenge Index. The index is calculated by dividing the number of Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate and other college-level tests a school administered by the number of graduates that year. As the Post says, "The rating can reveal the level of a high school’s commitment to preparing average students for college." North Cobb ranks 987th, Allatoona 1435th, and Harrison 1209th.
