5 Things: The Great Lake Allatoona Cleanup

Here are the things you need to know before starting the day on Sept. 13.

1. Weather. Sunny weather is in today, with a high near 86 and calm wind around 5 mph, according to the National Weather Service. Mostly clear skies are expected for tonight, with a low around 53.

2. In case you missed it. : Not only were there beautiful cars and bikes, military displays and drills were also presented in honor of the 10th anniversary of Sept. 11.

3. Happening. The 26th Annual is scheduled for Saturday, Sep. 17. This is a great opportunity for everyone in the Acworth community to come and help clean up the shoreline of both Lake Acworth and Lake Allatoona. The event begins at 9 a.m., and will conclude at noon with a cookout at the Riverside Day Use Area on Allatoona Dam Road. The event will include free food, entertainment and prizes for all of the participants.

5. What about Sept. 13. On Sept. 13, 1948, Republican Margaret Chase Smith of Maine was elected to the U.S. Senate, becoming the first woman to have served in both houses of Congress.
