5 Things: Get Ready to Vote

Here are the things you need to know before starting the day on Nov. 7.

1. Weather. Mostly sunny skies are in, with a high near 69. Calm wind is around 5 mph, according to the National Weather Service. Tonight is expected to be mostly clear, with a low around 43.

3. Happening. The will hold a general election on Tuesday, Nov. 8, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Roberts School, 4861 School Street, for Alderman Post 3 (incumbent) and are the candidates for Alderman Post 3. There will be a Special Election referendum on the Nov. 8 ballot for qualified voters to determine whether to allow Sunday package sales of alcohol (malt beverages, wine and distilled spirits) by retailers within the city limits of Acworth. 5. What about Nov. 7. On Nov. 7, 1874, the Republican Party was first symbolized as an elephant in a cartoon drawn by Thomas Nast in Harper's Weekly magazine. On this day in 1916, Jeannette Rankin of Montana became the first woman elected to Congress.
