Ford Elementary Collects Thousands of Items for Needy Families

Students at the local school have collected 5,000 cans of food in support of the Thanks for Giving food drive.

in Acworth participated in the Thanks for Giving Food Drive held by The Center for Family Resources to help needy families in the area.

This is not the first time Ford Elementary has taken part in the food drive. The school collected 1,400 food items for the effort last year.

In order to spur motivation and excitement this year, Scott Roma, the school's head custodian, challenged the students to collect more items than ever before. Roma promised that if the students are able to raise 5,000 cans, he would shave his head. Well, last week, he lost his hair!Β Β

"We are so proud of the work of the students at Ford Elementary," said Susie Ivy, spokesperson for The Center for Family Resources. "With a student body of only 749 kids, a collection of over 5,000 cans is a true feat."

Ivy said Ford Elementary's effort might be one of the largest school drives for 2011.
