Allatoona Finishes Eighth in State Riflery Championship

GHSA announced the results Monday from the State Riflery Championship in Fort Benning this past weekend.

's riflery team competed in the 2011 Georgia High School Association (GHSA) State Riflery Championship on Saturday, where 14 teams and more than 60 individual contestants participated. The four-member Allatoona team finished eighth in three position air rifle, with the following individual standings:

DeeCee Curtis, 28

Dane Derriso, 53

"They finished eighth out of 14 teams, that is a great finish." said Benji Morrell, Athletic Director and Assistant Principal at Allatoona High School. "Coach Kirk Ware does a great job with the team."

Morrell said the state rifelry meet is not divided into classifications, and the entire state of Georgia compete for one State Championship trophy. He said it is a tremendous accomplishment to finish eighth overall, and be one of only two Metro Atlanta teams at the championship.
